The thing to remember is that cardiovascular workouts are extremely beneficial. They help to build energy and stamina and they should never be completely ignored. However, with as intensive as certain cardio workouts are, and even with huge amounts of calories being burned during these workouts, the calorie burn will typically drop off significantly shortly after the workout is complete. This is where weightlifting far outpaces cardio workouts.
Because weightlifting helps to stimulate a person’s metabolism in a way that cardio workouts don’t, while weightlifting may not burn as many calories during the initial work out as intensely running on a treadmill for 3 miles, the calorie burn is more consistent hours after a workout. While calorie burn stops almost immediately after cardio workout, cardio burn after weightlifting can last anywhere from 6 to 10 hours. This means more calories burned, a jump in metabolism means more energy and much faster weight loss as opposed to doing strictly cardio workouts.
