Eight student-athletes from the Lake Placid, Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake volleyball teams were recently honored as all-stars in their respective leagues this past season.

The Red Storm, which finished with a 12-8 record and won the Section VII, Class title, had three Champlain Valley Athletic Conference selections. The Blue Bombers also had three student-athletes recognized by the CVAC, while the Lumberjacks had one selection to the Section X all-star team and one player earned league sportsmanship honors.

Emily Gay led Saranac Lake as a first-team pick, Lexie Donaldson was named to the CVAC second team and Gracen Foster was an honorable mention.

Gay, a junior, was the Red Storm’s top setter and one of the team’s most consistent and successful servers. She led the team with 194 assists, while also earning team-highs in points (181) and aces (69).

Donaldson, a freshman, was Saranac Lake’s top defensive player throughout the season. As the Red Storm’s libero, she recorded 229 digs this year, including a 32 dig performance in the Section VII, Class C title contest against AuSable Valley.

After seeing limited action last season, Foster, a sophomore, stepped up for the Red Storm and played a pivotal role this year. She finished second on the team in kills (67), aces (43) and assists (33).

Lake Placid’s selections were Nadia Phillip, Norah Galvin and Sydney Garrison. Phillip was named to CVAC first-team, Galvin earned second-team honors and Garrison was an honorable mention.

Phillip, a senior, was one of the section’s best hitters this past season, she recorded 226 kills breaking an unofficial school record while also leading the team with 173 digs. Galvin, a junior, was once again the Blue Bombers’ top setter, leading the team with 242 assists — she also led the team in that category last season.

Garrison, a senior, was one of Lake Placid’s top servers, recording team-highs in points with 147 and aces with 42. The Blue Bombers’ season ended in the Section VII, Class C semifinal game against Saranac Lake. Lake Placid had a 5-14 record.

Tupper Lake’s Rachel Sorensen was named second-team All-Northern, while Aubrey Sparks was awarded the Section X Outstanding Sportsmanship award.

After switching over to the libero position during the season, Sorensen, a senior, became a defensive specialist and a leader for the Lumberjacks. Sparks, a senior, was a solid player all-around for Tupper Lake and helped guide the squad to the Section X, Class C championship game.

The Lumberjacks finished the season with a 7-13 record overall.
