Jim Bishop | News, Sports, Jobs

On Sunday, May 22, we lost our beloved patriarch, Jim “Jimbo” Bishop.

Born in Saranac Lake on Oct. 8, 1940 to Ronald and Helen (Ryan) Bishop, Jim passed away after spending the day with one of his best buddies on Lower Saranac surrounded by the beauty of the Adirondacks.

Jim married the love of his life, Sharon, on Sept. 7, 1963. He spent 54 years of his professional life working for the Adirondack Daily Enterprise; many years as circulation manager. When he wasn’t ensuring that everyone had their newspaper, or teaching a new carrier their route, he was enjoying everything that life could offer.

A dedicated husband and father, he was a lover of life and community. Appreciative of every day, Jim enjoyed spending time with his family on the lakes and especially at Sekon Lodge. He was an avid teller of stories of which he had many.

Jim loved spending time with his sons; whether at one of their sporting events or the many adventures of camping or boating on the lake. He shared the love of photography with his grandson Skyler and so enjoyed watching his beloved granddaughter Emma in her many adventures over the years.

Jim devoted his time as a member of the Saranac Lake Civic Center Board, a hockey coach, and someone who would lend a hand in any way he could. Jim would always greet you with a “what do you know,” giggle and a big smile. Jim loved his community and looked forward to the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival every year. Jim was crowned Winter Carnival King in 1993 but has been our King for always. Jim was a friend to everyone and will be greatly missed.

Jim is survived by his wife Sharon (Higgins) of 58 years. His sons, Brian (Danielle) and Corey Bishop. His grandchildren, Skyler Comins and Emma Bishop, his nieces, Deanna Ortega and Sara Wolfgram. He is predeceased by his parents, brother Randy Bishop and sister Kathy Reynolds.
