PREP ROUNDUP: North softball routs Fort Knox on Cancer Awareness Night | Sports

North Hardin softball ended a three-game skid Friday evening.

Hosting Fort Knox for a 17th District game, the Lady Trojans jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and remained ahead for a 19-4, four-inning win.

The game also marked the return of the team’s Cancer Awareness Night. This year’s event honored Patty Lirot, a former North Hardin teacher and mother to Asheigh and Thomas Lirot of the school’s softball and baseball teams, who passed away from neuroendocrine cancer in 2020. Lirot was memorialized in various ways, including a pregame speech from husband Tom Lirot, a ceremonial first pitch from Ashleigh to Thomas, as well as a balloon release following the second inning that featured a wide variety of colors representing multiple forms of cancer.

Sydnee Adkisson, TyKeria Davis, Teonna Hall, Ryleigh Crank and Allison Fife each had one hit for the Lady Trojans.

Crank had three RBI. Hall and Elizabeth Latham followed with two each. Lirot, Fife, Davis, Sydnee Adkisson, Karlee Adkisson, Gabrielle Childers and Rachel Ritchie each had one RBI.

Lirot pitched all four innings, striking out six and holding the Lady Eagles to four hits, four runs and five walks.

Gabriella DeSequeira had two hits for Fort Knox. Nia Aldana and Gianna Hahn both followed with one each.

Aldana had both of the Lady Eagle’s two RBI.

In the circle, Aldana struck out two and allowed five hits, 19 runs and 10 walks.

North Hardin (6-9) hosts DuPont Manual at 5:30 p.m. Monday. Fort Knox (0-7) welcomes Highlands Latin at 11:30 a.m. this morning.

LaRUE COUNTY 15, NORTH HARDIN CLASSICAL 0. The Lady Hawks did not give up a run on the way to a four-inning home win over the Lady Falcons Friday.

Isabella Rivera, Alaura Allardice and Reagan Hornback had three runs each. Erin Hornback, Paige Evans and Maleah English each followed with two.

Rivera led the LaRue County bats with three hits. Erin Hornback followed with two. English, Reagan Hornback, Abigail Morgan and Isabelle Hayes each added one hit.

Reagan Hornback was credited with four RBI. Rivera followed with three. Morgan, Hayes, English and Payton Druen had one RBI each.

Hayes struck out 11 North Hardin Classical batters across all four innings.

The Lady Falcons’ Shay Cheatham struck out one and gave up nine hits, 15 runs and five walks to the Lady Hawks over the course of the game.

LaRue County (18-3) heads to Atherton for a 6 p.m. game Monday. North Hardin Classical (0-3) hosts the Lady Hawks on May 2.

MEADE COUNTY 5, BRECKINRIDGE COUNTY 4. The Lady Waves ended a three-game skid with a close 11th District road win over the Lady Tigers Friday.

Meade County (7-9) welcomes Hancock County for another district game at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

BETHLEHEM 1, ELIZABETHTOWN 0. The Lady Panthers came just short in a nine-inning road loss to the Banshees Friday.

Natalie Shaw, Taytum Spiers, Hannah Riley and Avery Simpson each had one hit.

Kylie McKinney went the distance, striking out 10 and limiting Bethlehem to five hits, one run and four walks over the game’s entirety.

Elizabethtown (13-4) travels to Danville to take part in the Danny Gadberry Invitational today. The Lady Panthers will open the tournament against Bourbon County at 11 a.m.

ATHERTON 13, JOHN HARDIN 8. The Lady Bulldogs came out on the losing end of a high-scoring home game against the Ravens Friday.

John Hardin (4-15) hosts Nelson County at noon today.

LaRUE COUNTY 18, ATHERTON 6. The Hawks returned home with a six-inning road win over the Ravens Friday.

Camrin Williams, Sean Rivera, Jameson LaRue and Lucas Knight each had three runs. Brian Sanchez and Baines Turner followed with two runs each. Jaxson Thomas and Ryan Hughes both had one run.

Sanchez led the way at the plate with three hits. Williams, Rivera, Thomas and Caden Davis each added one.

Brian Sanchez and Jayson Sanchez both had two RBI. Williams, Thomas and Baines had one RBI each.

Davis got the start on the mound and had three strikeouts, five hits, four runs and three walks in five innings. Rivera relieved Davis and added one strikeout, two hits and two runs in the sixth inning.

LaRue County (12-6) heads to Thomas Nelson for a 6 p.m. game Tuesday.

CENTRAL HARDIN 4, OLDHAM COUNTY 2. The Bruins picked up their ninth straight win with a home victory over the Colonels Friday night.

Kellen Brandenburg went two-for-three and had two RBI. Brady Goodman also had two hits. Ryan Bibb had one hit and was credited with one RBI.

Caden Alvey got the win on the mound. Alvey and reliever Christian Pinson combined for 11 strikeouts.

Central Hardin (15-5) welcomes Warren East at noon today.

MEADE COUNTY 11, JOHN HARDIN 1. The Green Wave returned to Brandenburg with a six-inning road win over the Bulldogs Friday.

Meade County (12-8) hosts New Albany from across the Ohio River in Indiana for a 5:30 p.m. game Monday. John Hardin (1-11) welcomes Bethlehem at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
