Sandy and Cole Campbell, of Saranac Lake, finish up planting their first seeds of the year in their plot at the Common Ground community gardens in Saranac Lake on Monday. The couple planted spinach, radishes and other frost-hardy plants. The Campbells have been gardening for around 52 years, Sandy said, but this is their first year at the community gardens. The community gardens have a tall perimeter fence, unlike the Campbell’s home, and Sandy hoped that would help keep their crops from becoming deer snacks as in years past.
