Barbara Kerfoot Obituary (1953 – 2024) – Elizabethtown, KY

Barbara Mae Ellen Shanks Kerfoot, 70, of Elizabethtown, went home to the Lord on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, in her home at Signature Health Care in Elizabethtown surrounded by her family.

She was born to Roy Silas Shanks of Kentucky and Vera Dorothy Upner of London, England, on May 20, 1953, in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Her father served in the U.S. Army and her mother served in the Royal Air Force and were married in England.

She was a child of the King and loved the Lord with all her heart. She witnessed, encouraged and shared the goodness of God until her last days. There was nothing she would rather do than to tell someone about Jesus and show His love. She was a member of Central Avenue Baptist Church; she began going there when she was 17 years old.

She graduated Elizabethtown High School in 1971. She attended Empire Beauty School and worked very hard her entire life in various jobs. Her favorite being a caregiver, pastor’s wife and homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Brother James Brad Kerfoot. They were married on Nov. 25, 1983.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her nephew, Michael “”Red”” Fogle; a brother-in-law, Michael Fogle Sr.; and special family members whom she loved dearly, Gladys, J.O., Elaine, Pat, Shirley, Jamie, Carly, Tom, William and Rose.

Left to cherish her life is her loving son, William “”Billy”” Boling, wife whom she loved as her daughter, Lora Boling; a grandson who she was so proud of, Logan Boling and his special girlfriend, Grace Riggs; her dear sister and best friend, Carol Fogle; two nieces, Brooke Fogle Armstrong and her husband, Mike, and Tammy Fogle Sarver and her husband, Tim. She had two special great-nieces and a great-nephew, Elizabeth Fogle, Michael Fogle III and Arabella Sarver; and her best friend and sister by heart, Tammy Blanton. She also leaves behind her bonus children and grandchildren who she claimed as her own. She loved being Granny Barb to Ashley, Dwayne, Eli, Bella, Callie, Reese, Dakota (Cody), Sydney, Nova and Mila and Korbyn, Bryce, MaKenna, Dylan, Maddi, Chris and Jacob. She was a second mom to many, including childhood friends of her son, Billy, and siblings of Lora’s.

She loved celebrating holidays, special moments, and memories together.

She had many dear friends and family who she loved unconditionally. She loved serving the Lord being involved at church, cheering on the Central Hardin Bruins and Kentucky Wildcats.

The funeral is at noon EDT Monday, April 22, in the chapel of Chism Family Funeral Home in Vine Grove. Burial follows in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-Central in Radcliff. Pastor Wayne Clemons, Pastor Kevin Roberts and Pastor Tom Wicker will officiate the service.

Visitation is from 3 to 7 p.m. EDT Sunday and continues from 9 a.m. to noon EDT Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Fraternal Order of Police Bruce Tabor Memorial Lodge No. 40 or Central Avenue Baptist Church.
