Professional Development Prepares Physical Therapy Students for Success

Seton Hall’s Doctor of Physical Therapy (D.P.T.) program prepares students for career success through expert faculty mentorship, immersive
clinical training and a strong emphasis on professional readiness. The program blends
classroom learning with hands-on experiences and interprofessional engagement to ensure
students are well equipped to enter the field.
As part of their final semester, graduating D.P.T. students recently took part in
an informative session with leaders from the American Physical Therapy Association
of New Jersey (APTANJ), gaining insights on advocacy, professional engagement and
career development. The event was spearheaded by Assistant Professor Lorene Cobb, P.T., D.P.T., M.S., and Director of Clinical Education Jessica Dunn, D.P.T., who continue to champion meaningful mentorship as students transition to clinical
practice.
“We want our students to graduate not just with clinical skills, but with the confidence
and perspective to engage fully in the profession,” said Dunn. “Opportunities like
this help bridge the gap between the classroom and the real world.”
Seton Hall’s Interprofessional Health Sciences (IHS) campus in Nutley, N.J., where
D.P.T. students participated in a professional development session with APTANJ leaders.
“This kind of engagement helps our students see the bigger picture — that they’re
part of a professional community committed to advocacy, lifelong learning and advancing
patient care,” said Cobb. “We want them to feel empowered as they step into their
roles as physical therapists.”

About the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program
Seton Hall’s three-year, full-time Doctor of Physical Therapy (D.P.T.) program combines
rigorous academic study with hands-on clinical experiences to prepare students for
rewarding careers as physical therapists. Based at the Interprofessional Health Sciences
(IHS) campus in Nutley, N.J., the program features an award-winning simulation center,
nationally recognized faculty and guaranteed clinical placements across the tri-state
area.
Graduates are well prepared to pass the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE)
and deliver compassionate, evidence-based care in a variety of healthcare settings.
